Hiring a solar company in Lakewood

Lakewood permits residential rooftop solar through SolarAPP+: the contractor submits the design online, gets an approval ID and checklist, pays the remaining fees and prints the permit, and SolarAPP+'s fee covers up to three revisions. SCE supplies and delivers Lakewood's electricity, and new systems go on SCE's Solar Billing Plan. Compare at least three written bids built on your own twelve months of SCE bills.

    Lakewood's SolarAPP+ steps

Lakewood's Building and Safety Division lists five steps. The contractor submits the design through SolarAPP+, registering with its contractor license information. When the design is approved, SolarAPP+ issues a checklist and a SolarAPP+ ID. The contractor then pays the remaining City fees when prompted and prints the permit. SolarAPP+ charges its own processing fee for the plan review, and that initial fee covers up to three revisions.

Inspections are requested through the Building and Safety Division's inspection line at 562-866-9771, extension 2350, or by the inspection-request email address on the City's page. Because the platform is built for standard roof-mounted retrofits, a ground mount or an unusual roof structure may need a different path; ask the bidder to confirm eligibility against SolarAPP+'s requirements before quoting a start date.

Reading an SCE proposal in Lakewood

Since November 2025, SCE bills have carried a Base Services Charge of $24.15 a month for customers not on CARE or FERA, $12.08 on FERA and $6.00 on CARE. It pays for the grid rather than the energy you use, so solar does not shrink it. Any savings figure in a Lakewood proposal should come off the part of the bill that solar can actually reduce.

Under SCE's Solar Billing Plan, energy sent to the grid earns Energy Export Credits whose value changes with the hour, and SCE settles the account once a year in the month the system began service. Surplus left after that settlement is paid at SCE's Net Surplus Compensation Rate, which SCE puts at about two cents per kWh. SCE also says that storing your own energy for expensive hours is now worth more than exporting it, which is why a battery quote deserves its own line.

    A comparison to ask for

Ask each Lakewood bidder for its SolarAPP+ approval plan before you compare prices, and whether the design is a standard roof-mounted retrofit that SolarAPP+ can check. A bid that needs changes after approval should say whether they fall within the three revisions SolarAPP+'s fee covers, and who books the City inspection.

    Lakewood solar quote questions

How do I get a solar permit in Lakewood, CA?

Lakewood uses SolarAPP+. A licensed contractor registers, submits the design, and once SolarAPP+ approves it receives a checklist and SolarAPP+ ID, pays the remaining fees and prints the permit. Inspections are requested through the City's Building and Safety inspection line.

Who provides electricity in Lakewood, California?

Southern California Edison supplies and delivers the power. The Energy Commission's map shows no community choice provider over the city.

What happens to extra solar power in Lakewood?

A new system is on SCE's Solar Billing Plan: exports earn Energy Export Credits, the account is settled once a year in the month the system started service, and leftover surplus is paid at SCE's Net Surplus Compensation Rate, about $0.02 per kWh.
